The Aral Sea lies between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. With an original area of almost 70,000 square kilometers, it was the fourth largest lake on earth. Due to the obvious cultivation of cotton, the lake has been literally exploited over the years! Because it hardly rains in the region, the water level of the Aral Sea dropped by 20 meters!
